Cross-platform interaction
Prototyping the passage of time
The central design problem was temporal: users needed to understand what was active, how work was progressing, what had changed, and what required attention. Those signals also had to remain accessible and compliant across desktop and mobile contexts.
A simple status heuristic
I explored multiple ways of visualizing progression and status, then tested the most promising behaviors in high-fidelity prototypes. The prototypes made timing, transitions, and feedback concrete before the team committed to implementation.
The final direction used a simple shared heuristic rather than platform-specific conventions that contradicted one another. Grindy's current product continues to connect desktop and mobile time tracking with project budgets, profitability, team availability, time zones, and ticket automation.
